Big SMTP Problem- **@**.de R=cff_route T=cff_smtp defer (-53): retry tim

today i've had a big problem with AS 7.011

It seems that no mail was send out for hours. I've seen many log-entrys like:


2007:11:06-18:46:26 (none) exim[28909]: 2007-11-06 18:46:26 1IpQuF-0002YR-F6 == ***@**.de R=cff_route T=cff_smtp defer (-53): retry time not reached for any host

Directly before this i see the lines:

2007:11:06-18:46:25 (none) exim[28906]: 2007-11-06 18:46:25 Start queue run: pid=28906
2007:11:06-18:46:25 (none) exim[28908]: 2007-11-06 18:46:25 1IpS75-0005tE-Dt 127.0.0.1 [127.0.0.1]:1234 Connection refused
2007:11:06-18:46:25 (none) exim[28907]: 2007-11-06 18:46:25 1IpS75-0005tE-Dt == **@**.de R=cff_route T=cff_smtp defer (111): Connection refused


Then after hours  the mails gone out!

What is cff_route and what is the problem?

    Looks like one of your virus scanner craped out??

    The service on port 1234 appears to be one of the email virus scanners so I would toggle the virus scaning on/off(or smtp proxy) and see what happens since the normal exim process can't connect back to it.

    Just a guess though.

    Hello ScottL,

    i've checked this an i could see that in the times when the problem occurs the cpu goes near 100%- for (and at) exactly the time during the problem occurs!

    A few minutes ago i've seen the problem again and do a top un the command-line - and there was:
     /usr/bin/cffd --logmask=15

     for many minutes with cpu around 90%.

    Could it be an error in cff? 
    We are using V7.011 100 Users with mail + web security

    My mail-users running wild now!

    Many mails hang around with the "retry time not reached" from cff_route/cff_smtp!

    A restart of the proxy doesn't help. 
    exim -qff gives the following error:

    reconnect
    error basic_ios::clear - reconnecting
    reconnect
    Error: basic_ios::clear
    reconnect
    error basic_ios::clear - reconnecting
    reconnect
    Error: basic_ios::clear

    After switching off/on the smtp and then a exim -qff  all the mails where delivered.

    It's a very serious problem for an professional security system!

    Meanwhile i see the possible reason for this problem.

    When i see the 
    ..

    .. 
    log entry i also cannot connect to 127.0.0.1:1234 via telnet. This is possible when cffd runs.

    Also in the smtp.log, in which cffd writes his log, no entrys will be written.  

    After stopping and restarting cffd with /var/mdw/scripts/cffd stop/start evrything runs fine and the queued mails are being delivered.

    But i cannot do this 10 times a day! Guys from Astaro - if you read this - please fixe the problem in your next update!

    Hi, I had nearly the some tonight!

    The internal SMTP Engine on 127.0.0.1 stopped working suddenly.
    I could see the following error:

    2007:11:15-02:31:13 (none) exim[28854]: 2007-11-15 02:31:13 1IsTZY-0007VG-UY == user@mydomain.com R=cff_route T=cff_smtp defer (-46): SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: host 127.0.0.1 [127.0.0.1]: 451 Call addMessage("smtp", "", 4205 , "/var/smtp/smtp-1195090273-pid28841-1", "bwoxspdspo@blindbuck.com", "user@mydomain.com", 0) : PROCEDURE STORAGE.addMessage does not exist

    Maybe Astaro should have a look at this!

    We have the same problem here:

    Also Astaro V7.011.

    We have tried to disable Virus scanning. Also there is a task which runs exim -qf all the time (every 30 seconds).

    But sometimes it still lasts up to 30 minutes until a mail is delivered.

    So what to do ?

    People I suggest you private message Gert Hansen or one of the other Astaro people and send him a link to this thread with a "please look" comment.  Seems common issue and serious.

    Any news about that? I have still the same error sometimes on 7.104

    2008:05:19-18:52:07 (none) cffd[30193]: id="1008" severity="error" sys="SecureMail" sub="smtp" name="error while scanning" info="Error while scanning a message in database" error="No such file or directory"
