SMTP Error

Hi all,

Hello,

when I try to send mails to some peolpe, the mails come back in case the mailserver on the other side do not accept it. See the error:

For your info:

The astaro is behind an DSL Router, the router have an staic IP . The laninterface of the router is 192.168.2.1 the external interface of the AS is 192.168.2.2. The internal interface of the AS is 192.168.1.1/24 My external DNS is correct also the reverse lookup, if I try it  firewall.peters.li comes back for the staic IP (217.7.228.130) Do you have any idea or help how I can fix this ?

    Horst,
    are you using a mail server or just a mail client for smtp?

    I suspect you are using a mail client on your desk and will assume such.

    I have posted a couple of responses to similar problems in some earlier threads in this forum. I would suggest a search. I can't remember which threads it was in.

    Basically you need to setup the smarthost function in the smtp proxy along with other functions to ensure your e-mail always goes through your ISP's mail servers otherwise you will get more rejections as people tighten there spam rules.

    well I use a Exchange 2003 Server behind the Astaro V7. I do not use smarthosts. I have my own mailserver and my own internal and external nameservers. But I think I found the fault:

    Advanced settings
    SMTP hostname:
    Postmaster address:

    Max message size:
    Megabytes
    Setting the Hostname will cause the system to use the specified name in HELO and SMTP banner strings. By default the normal system hostname is used. The Postmaster address will receive messages that are sent to addresses of the form 'postmaster@[ip.ad.dr.es]'. Accepting such email is an RFC requirement.

    Right in this page only firewall was insert at the smtphostname, ich chnage it to the complete hostname with my domainname and it lokks like that it works now. (will investigate it)
