SMTP Help needed!

I have just gone live with 7.004 and it is not working as intended for SMTP.

I have two backend mail servers.  One handles the majority of emails and the other handles only two domains.

I am receiving some emails to @micromine.com whilst some senders appear to be getting "Relay denied" errors!?  (To mail server one).

ie some mail is coming through but others are not.

I cannot figure out why ASL has the SMTP server setup on page 1 with a list of domains and then the mail server that these domains should be routed to?

I can see a case for this when you only have one backend mail server, but what do I do if I have more than one?

First try, i set all domains going to my exchange server on the front page. then set individual domains to the other server  in the "per domain" profile area.

But emails were not coming through at all.

I'd like to use purely "per domain" profiles, but seems I cannot leave the front page blank....

Also, ASL 7.004 seems VERY slow for web browsing. (No virus scanning enabled, no IDS enabled).

How should I configure SMTP, I'd love it if someone here could login and have a look.

When I remove all domains from "Global SMTP" settings page and rely on "Per domain" profiles I get the following relay errors.
203.153.227.210 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 Relay not permitted
Giving up on 203.153.227.210.

This was for a micromine.com domain, despite micromine.com being listed in the "per domain" settings page!?

Fixed micromine.com error.  when removing from Global it blanked the per domain profile too.  Bit of a bug.

Mail to .ru and .kz still not working...

    OK, so how many domains do you have configured? (Not that it should matter, but am trying to understand the big picture)

    Is SMTP for both micromine.com and micromine.ru handled by your machines behinde the firewall?

    I cannot figure out why ASL has the SMTP server setup on page 1 with a list of domains and then the mail server that these domains should be routed to?

    I can see a case for this when you only have one backend mail server, but what do I do if I have more than one?

    If you have more than one, you need to create additional "Per-domain profiles". It sounds like you should create one for the domains that your 2nd server handles. Also make sure the Default Profile lists all the domains that should receive mail for.

    You can just ignore the Global settings and use the Per-domain profile settings. It should update the Global settings appropriately.

    Yeah, don't do that. The Global SMTP and Per-domain profiles settings are connected.

    But yeah, configuring the SMTP is confusing. For example, I just went through and tested some things and found these things annoying:

    1. Creating a new per-domain profile should default to the global settings.
    2. The Anti-spam thresholds don't seem to take. I can't turn them off. You don't seem to be able to disable Anti-spam scanning on a per-domain basis.
    3. It would be nice to be able to edit a global setting and optionally apply it to all Per-domain profiles. Many times you will want to change a setting globally.
    4. You can't change the order of the Extra RBL Zones in the Per-domain profile settings. Are these extra on top of the global settings or not?
    5. You can't change what type of Anti-Virus scanning (single scan, double scan) or turn it off in a Per-domain profile. Again, do the global settings apply to each Per-domain setting?
    6. The Per-domain profile which is associated with the global profile should be indicated as such. If you rename it you can easily forget which one matches the global profile.

    I have two servers.
    MM00319 (Exchange) handles mail for domains:
    micromine.com
    micromine.com.au
    micromine.mn
    sputcorp.com
    bluhead.com
    subismallbore.asn.au

    MM00360 (Ipswitch iMail, has two aliases (diff IP's)
    (mail.micromine.ru and mail.micromine.kz)
    It handles mail for:
    micromine.ru
    micromine.kz

    Well yes.
    You say to make sure the default profile lists ALL domains the SMTP server should accept mail for?  Is this correct?
    The default profile only allows you to list ONE mail server to send mail to.

    If I list micromine.ru in the default profile, won't it's mail get sent to the listed server? (ie MM00319 when it should be forwarded to server mail.micromine.ru???)

    This is what I don't get.

    Or will it somehow magically know from the "Per domain profiles" that no, I should send mail to mail.micromine.ru and NOT MM00319 ?

    The default profile only allows you to list ONE mail server to send mail to.

    Clarification: Yes, the default profile should list all domains destined for MM00319.

    When you look in the per-domain profiles, the default profile will list those domains with the destination of MM00319.

    Create a new profile with your other 2 domains with the destination set to mail.micromine.ru.

    Can you?  It seems to not want to proceed unless you define SOME server.

    You can ignore the first page once you have a server defined. It will be the same as the default profile under the per-domain profiles page.

    BTW, you're the one that started the other thread about the slow HTTP proxy in 7.004. [:)]

    Well, I did all that and it didnt work..

    Can you post screen shots of your main page and your per-domain settings?
