7.003 Prefetch and Vista Mail

I decided to use prefetch since the latest 7.003 included many fixes.  It works great for my account with I use Outlook to send receive mail.  Much better and faster than transparent proxy with prefetch off.
The problem though is the kids all use Vista's Mail (the new Outlook Express).  I have extended the server timeout to the maximum of 5 min, and it still times out.  Any suggestions?

    Interesting, timeout using prefetch should not be happening because prefetch responds within seconds if there isn't any mail.
    Where timeout becomes an issue is if the users have lots of messages and the download time from the ASG exceeds the time set for outlook express to start the next session and you end up with multiple copies of the e-mails.

    Next silly question, have your kids actually received any e-mail through the proxy with prefetch enabled? Because, the log isn't showing any messages actually being sent.

    No messages have been received at all when prefetch is turned on through Windows Mail (the new Outlook Express in Vista).  However, Outlook 2007 and 2003 on Vista have no problems on the same ASG  with prefetch.  The log was just a snip.

    Where does the outlook express mail come from eg a site that can't handle bounced mail?
    Prefetch does some simple bounce of messages to ensure that they originate from a real server.

    Not sure if yahoo etc can handle that.

    The Vista Mail just times out.  There are several accounts configured, all from my isp, charter.net,  Oddly, the same accounts work great using Outlook 2003 and 2007 with prfetch on.  These same account just time out using Mail.

    By default, it only tries the one account (main) unless told get the others.

    Any other ideas?

    Sorry, I can't help any further, I swore off outlook express many years ago and I wish MS would stop forcing it down people's throats at every update.

    I use outlook, but apparently not all features are in outlook that are in outlook express eg rss feeds.

    Even Outlook seems to have a problem with prefetch turned on, Outlook just Times out (set 5min).  This computer has Win XP, and has a ISP account @charterinternet.com .  Prefetch works with other accounts from this domain, just not from this computer.  Here is the log...  Notice the "execute" command="USER" .  It looks like ASG is trying to assign a user id, but is not completing the command.  Any Ideas?  Just Timing out!

    All I can think off that is left is reboot the ASG.

    I had to reboot he ASG in order to attach a keyboard to it so that I could change the Log setting in the pop3 script "--logmask=" from 15 to 31 so I could get a more detailed log.

    Any suggestions?  The same email account work fine on other computers in outlook on the same network...

    Hi there guys, 

    we have taken a look at this issue and it seems to be a combinaton of client and server issues.

    If the server sends non-ascii characted (which he is not supposed to do) than the contentfilter see's this as a violation, throws an error and skip's the mail. 

    we have a fix for that which is currently in QA and is planned to be in the next up2date package.
    Unfortunatly there is no workaround currently.
