Hotmail mails

Hi,

it appears that mails sent from hotmail are always being quarantined because spam score is always higher than 4.

How can I distinguish spam mails from regular mails sent from hotmail instead of all mails simply being blocked.

    Hi,

    I don't know of you using an internal SMTP-server. But in the SMTP-> Exceptions-tab you can define e-mail accounts to not to be scanned for "Heuristic Anti-Spam checking". This will solve specific hotmail accounts not to be scanned for Anti-Spam. I don't know if "*@hotmail.com" will work. Keep in  mind that ALL HOTMAIL-accounts won't be scanned so this can give more SPAM in your inbox. Hopefully this will lead to a solution for you.....

    Hi,

    thanks for the reply, but this is not quite a solution since we have 200 e-mail addresses and every address might receive mail from hotmail accounts. For now, I've added the mostly used hotmail addresses to the whitelist. However, my point also is that ASL adds a spamscore of 2.0 to each hotmail message because it thinks the header is forged, but it's not forged at all, since it are legitimate mails coming from normal hotmail accounts.

    Hi,

    Maybe you got me wrong. But when you make an "exception" it counts for all the domains which are configured in this SMTP-profile. So if "*@hotmail.com" works, it will be granted to all configured mail domains of your internal server. So all mail from hotmail.com will be skipped from being scanned for heuristic spam.

    Hi,

    yes I know, but bypassing all mail from hotmail increases spam significantly (just like you stated). So excluding hotmail entirely is not an option.

    I have the same problem, all hotmail is being blocked because my ASG 220 thinks it is spam.

    Since a lot of spam acually comes from hotmail accounts simply allowing all hotmail to pass is not an option.

    Any solutions yet?

    This is totally invalidating your support if you do; but, you can change the weighting/scoring for FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD by editing
    /usr/share/spamassassin/50_scores.cf 
    find the line
    50_scores.cf:score FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD 2.402 2.152 2.820 2.255

    then disable & enable the spam protection in webadmin to reload it.

    I wish that astaro would provide a gui front end or a supported method of altering these files. Often V I A G R A is scored far too low.

    But why does it report it as a forged header in the first place while it's a legitimate mail from hotmail ?

    Hi,

    anybody knows how to fix this finally ? Looks like a problem in spam assassin. Unfortunately, Astaro isn't very helpful also, so we're still suffering from this issue.
