An awful lot of spam is getting through the filters

Hi,

Is this "Spam mail" with picture's in it?
I have placed this to my Distributor as a "pain in the........."

They told me that it will be investigated.

Another way is to make a company rule to block all .jpg and .jpeg and.gif pictures, which are the most commonly used images in these types of mails.

You need to get those scanners updated.  The industry were still having issues with pictures during that time.
Do you knowe why those patterns were not getting updated...

I can't update the spam conent pattern, as there are no newer version than of january 15th. 2007.

Not really much of a solution if your business relies on being able to receive images though is it?

We don't rely on receiving them but we do need to be able to receive them from anyone as we need to be able to see images of product / models / marketing material

I also get complaints about the amount of Spam.
Looks like it raised a lot migrating from eSafe to Astaro.

However I noticed different results in POP3 and SMTP filtering, which I posted before in:

Clients off us using Trend Micro SMB will get those spam messages TAGed as Spam in their "Spam folder"
Thats why i called/mailed my distributor for a possible solution from Astaro.....

Its nice as Spamfilter but if Astaro can't hold this kind of Spam, you've to buy a sepperate Antivirus/spam product.....This is getting expensive if you are using a internal antivirus product ONLY!

Any one know a way (in Astaro) to restrict the IP Range of recived MAIL to the ISP only ?  Most of you will find if you "ping" or DNS resolve your external MX record - usually mail.yourdomain.com it will end up at your EXTERNAL address of your ASG firewall. You can setup a SMART Host to send mail direct to your ISP in the proxy,, so effectivly relaying via them and elimnating the need for  a PTR record /reverse DNS lookup problem with the likes of AOL.

However, a lot of SPAM is now sent DIRECT to your SMTP proxy (External Address) so bypasses the ISP (ours has free AV filtering)... 

By restricting the IP range would stop a lot of SPAM from outside your region as by definition SPAMMERS use far away IP ranges so you would reject them outright.

Obviously if it was a straight SNAT/DNAT rule we can restrict SMTP (25) to an IP range of our ISP,but then we couldnt use the PROXY, I can't see any way to do it in the PROXY .....

Rufus, as long as you know what IP addresses your ISP will be relaying mail to you for, you should be able to setup some packet filters to do exactly what you describe.
