Problems Recieving SMTP

Hi,

I am currently running Astaro V6.302.  We have an SBS 2003 server sat behind our Astaro box.

On Saturday afternoon our SBS box crashed and ever since we have not been recieving our SMTP mail although sending is not a problem.

I realise this looks like a problem with the SBS box but thought it would be a good time to check I have the SMTP settings configured correctly.

At present we have our Exchange server pointed at mail.ourdomain.com with  Packet Filter & NAT/MASQ rules in place on Astaro to forward all SMTP traffic that hits the external address of the Astaro box directly to the Exchange server.

Is there a better way to do this?  I would think using Astaro as a smarthost or something would be more suitable.

Any input would be appreciated

    Get rid of the mail server SNAT rule and activate the SMTP proxy instead. It will give you far more control and configuration flexibility. EXIM, the SMTP proxy included in ASG, is very good.

    Thanks for the reply.

    So If I remove all SMTP SNAT and Packet Filter rulesI have at the moment then the SMTP proxy will be able take care of all of the SMTP traffic passing through and shove it straight through to my exchange server, (when configured) is this right?

    I'm a bit of a newbie so any guidance is appreciated!

    Yes, but you do need to configure the SMTP proxy. A domain group, a domain profile and a smart host forwarder all need to be configured correctly in the proxy settings. You'll find the instructions for this in the help on the SMTP proxy page in Webadmin.
