In one of the threads it is said that opening port 6000 in the firewall would solve the problem with mails not going through when Scan Outgoing Mail is enabled. When the function is disabled everything goes through fine, but none of the functions in the Content Filter section works.
I have then tried to see where the problems lies within, by disabling Expression filters, AntiVirus, Extension and MiME error checking, and the mail still won't go through when scan outgoing is enabled.

Does anyone have an explanation of what is going on in the scan outgoing mail function?

At this point the server is set up to only deliver mail out of the house in a test-case, therefor it is placed behind a firewall, instead of in front. Another solution we have, is the vice versa, and it works fine when both recieving and sending mails.

The system runs on the lates ISO on Astaro.com (ASG 6.200).

    I have now come closer to a solution.

    I disabled spam protection (not needed on outgoing mails) and enabled scan on outgoing mails again, and this time it works, and it also works with expression filter, antivirus engine a.s.o.

    Taking a closer look a mail policy you will often come to mind that ingoing mail has to be chacked for spam, but what about outgoing?? Normally there should not be any users sending spam out from the company, therefor you don't have to check for spam on the outgoing line. Some would then say, but if the machine is infected with virus that sends mail. Then the answer would mostly be that the virus will not send through the mail clients SMTP host, but through a specific mailhost on the internet, or by itself.

    I'll be glad to hear any other comments on this issue :-)

    When we set up a customer site, we normally enable SPAM filtering for inbound, and no filtering for outbound.  The difference is that we ONLY allow the internal Mail server(s) to send email outbound, and we often point them at the Astaro's internal IP as a smarthost.  We do not enable SMTP ports for any other host on the network, instead, we force any temporary users (people that visit, like auditors, etc.) to relay through the Astaro, and for any other IP(s) other than the ones used by the internal mail server(s), SPAM filtering is forced, and of course, AV scanning is too.  Keeps them from getting of a blacklist due to a less than sanitary "visitor'.
