Can anyone give me an idea why I am getting this error in the smtp log .... temporarily rejected RCPT it appears between the sender address and recipient address.
Nope not just hotmail now getting them from wannado/freeserve as well. But the Hotmail ones are being allowed thru eventually after about 4/5 attempts??
I think, you have switched on 'greylisting'. then it is normal, that the mails are temporarily rejected until they are send from the same ip-address a second time.
Ok definately caused by greylisting but! greylisting doesnt appear to be working correctly as it temp rejects all mail even after having excepted it before!! I thought it was supposed to only query the source ip the first time?
the large mailers like hotmail use different servers with different ip-addresses for the repeated sending. So greylisting is rejecting it several time until the first time the repeated mail comes from an already used ip-address. Check for the exact ip-address and tell us if it is still wrong.
