No IMAP Proxy - Will mails be scanned anyway?

Hello everyone,

When I was reading through the specs for AGS6 I noticed that IMAP isn't mentioned with one word.
Is there no way to get my IMAP mails virus-scanned?

This would be a no-go criteria as I have to use IMAP.

I am hoping that there is a way, I really am.
If you know how to get virus-protection with IMAP done, please drop me a line.

    Maybe in V7. I know P3scan(Mailscanner Astaro uses, I believe) has a beta that is suppose to scan IMAP for viruses and possibly spam - not 100% sure. But maybe it may come out.

    I know other UTM's like Sonicwall, Fortigate, ServeGate, CP Secure and Safe@Office can scan IMAP for viruses. Would be nice to see in V7 with the ability.

    So it's excluded that the IMAP scanning feature will be integrated later in V6? I think I can't install V7 because my hardware is too bad for it.

    The lack of an IMAP proxy in ASG is something that has been bothering me since ver 4. My guess is that the Astaro design team figures that either the users behind an ASG firewall either use POP3 to connect to an external mail server, or they have their own in-house mail server which then sends and receives all the mail via the SMTP protocol. I do see the need for an IMAP proxy, preferably a transparent one, but I am not yet aware of any indication from Astaro that they might include one in a future release.

    Mind you, if your users are using IMAP email connections, you really ought to have an in-house mail server, since having multiple users running IMAP out over a broadband Internet connection to a remote mail server is not such a good idea performance wise.

    Transparent IMAP Proxy would be nice, but i would prefer a normal "proxy" that would also support IMAP over SSL.
