I use an ASL 6.101. The SMTP proxy is configured to use a smarthost. I also use the DNS proxy. As smarthost entry I use the DNS FQDN of that server which includes four IPs. To be able the validate the availability of the name resolution I also created a "DNS Hostname (multiple entries)" entry under Definitions -> Networks.
Every now and then the smarthost, which is part of a firewall, is beeing rebooted. After that my SMTP proxy cannot resolve the name anymore and all mails end up in the queue. When I check the entry under Definitions this is fine. Doing a ping from Network -> Ping Check to the name (typed in manually) is bringing up an error that tells me to check the DNS proxy. When I restart the DNS proxy this is working again. After forcing delivery in the Proxy Content Manager the mails in the queue are beeing delivered.
This brings up several questions for me :
1. Why do I have to restart the DNS proxy ? Shouldn't it pick up the address by itself, even if there is a change ?
2. Why do I manually have to get the SMTP queue running again ? Shouldn't it automatically resend it's content when the smarthost is available again ?
Greetings
Markus
