SMTP Proxy Failure (-53): retry time not reached

My firewall and SMTP Mails get stuck suddenly on the Firewal. Could anyone explaine why?

    I have had the same problem.

    For us it seems that some of our Exchange server has to use eSMTP, but our firewall had a smtp-fixup running, it removes some vital functions for the eSMTP protocol.
    If you are running PIX firewall, try to disable the SMTP-Fixup. It solved our problems in many cases.
    Other firewall mihgt have the same sort of fixup, but I can not tell.
