i've asl 5.206, running fine.
activated smtp proxy with virus and spam protection
and pop3 transparent proxy with virus protection.
this means mail with virus getting onto the server on saturday may be detected monday morning, when asl got it's updates.
also scans vor viruses when collegues get mail from servers outside. really a nice feature.
we run into trouble when we get big mails - something like 8MB or 10 MB. SMTP sees no problem - i set max size to 10MB (course we have many students or collegues at university scanning and sending big files with email
)mail gets onto mail server - but getting it back it kills pop3 daemon. in the other thread it's advised to set timeout in mailclient - but i (admin) get mail from my firewall when someone else tries:

that reads to me: asl decided to restart pop3 itself ! right?
can i - or can you (asl-team) set the timeout for this pop3daemon supervision to higher default? or maybe linear to max-message size? or reverse to cpu-speed?
well - better hardware may do the job - but it's no need to do this - i think. i have P4 - 2.8GHz, 512 MB or something like that.
cpu usage reported at 0.2- something.works great for files of some MB - but between 5 and 10 starts making trouble.
just switching off pop3 for a moment is enough for the klients to get the mail - but it's no longer scanned then .....
