POP3

POP3 Proxy is for retrieving email from your ISP's POP3 mail server. You can use SMTP proxy with smart host to send email and have it scan for viri. However if you just want to send email create a packet filter that says:

Internal Network -> ANY
Service = SMTP
Action = allow low priority 

In V6 SMTP proxy can be transparent so you enable it and set it to transparent. Allow relay from you internal network. Enable the option SCAN OUTGOING. And enable Virus Scanning, I usually use the quarantine option as then I can review the proxy quarantine and find out which of my hosts is infected.
If your ISP does not allow smtp server connections, like my ISP road runner, you will have to just use the packet filter. You could try the smart host option but my ISP [:(]ther.

thank you for your answer. Now I can send and recieve e-mails. I have activated popproxy, my internal network as allowed network selected, then generated two packet filter rules:
1. src: internat nw
    dest. any
service pop3 allowed

2. src: internal nw
   dest. any
service smtp allowed

Then I have generated a natrule:
type: masquerading
network: internal network
interface: Internet
So I can send and recieve emails from client from internal network.
Now I have a new problem:

I have a second internal network, called WLAN.
The nic from astaro-machine is connected with a switchport of a router linksys wrt54g. The router is configured as access-point. The clients in this wlan can connect to the internet, but they can't recieve and send emails. I have the same procedure as my internal network, but this clients can't work with outlook over ASL.
Has anyone a tip for me ?

First of all you do not need to create a packet filter for POP3 only SMTP if you are using the POP3 Proxy. Secondly you need to add the second internal network (lets call it WLAN) to the POP3 Proxy as allowed network. Then you need to create a packet filter:

WLAN -> any
Service = SMTP
Action = Allow low priority

If you have not created a NAT Masquerade rule for the WLAN then do so. The tutorial on how to do that is in the manual.

I have done all things, but the wlan-client cannot send and recieve emails. The client can connect to the web.
I have put the WLAN-Network put to the allowed networks in the popproxy. I have created a smtp-rule  for wlan:
src: wlan
dest: any
service: smtp
And I have a nat masquerading for wlan.
Outlook says : the servername can't find in the network for sending and recieving emails.

Hallo,

now I have found my mistake. In the dhcp-server-dialog I forgot to write a dns-server, wich is be given to the client during the login-process. Now all clients can send and recieve e-mails.
I'm so sorry, but now I'm happy    , I can go with Astaro Security Linux.
