pop3 Proxy and large attachments

I have a problem popping mails. I tried fetchmail with a linux system, pegasus Mail on Windows XP and now pullmail with a windows 2003 Small Business Server. I try to pop a mail wth has an 400kB attachment . I have to set the timeout to 10 minutes, then I can download the mail. Deleting it fails with the following error:
POP DELE commanded failed, reply -ERR PROXY ERROR:  basic_ios::clear(iostate) caused exception
POP RETR command failed, reply -ERR PROXY ERROR:  basic_ios::clear(iostate) caused exception
QUIT command failed

This error does only occur with mails that have attached files larger than approximately 300kB.
If I disable the astaro POP3l Proxy it all works fine.
Who can help?

I use the latest ASL Version 5.

    I am willing to bet it is your 333 cpu.  I barely go away with a p-2 350 but that was with some custom tweaks.  Get some much faster hardware and i bet your pop3 error will go away.

    i dont know if that is correct. because i have a p4 2,8 with 1gb ddr and 80gb hd but have also some sort problems when downloading pop mail with an attachment.

    Hi,

    strange, had those trouble at a customer site, but only with version 4.xx. After upgrade to V5 it worked without a problem. 
    Problem only occured, when the client fetcher retrieved an infected mail and the pop3-proxy on the astaro discarded the mail. Was not directly size specific. 

    But since V5 I never saw this sort of problems. Even 4 or 5 meg files dont make any trouble. 

    Can you try to make a manual POP3 connection via telnet 110 to see how the target pop3 server is reacting?

    I think WWilliam was right. I upgraded my Hardware to an AMD Athlon XP 2200, 1 GB Ram , and two 20 GB HDD in Raid1 configuration. I had no problems so far (two weeks)!
    But in addition to the HW change I also updated to ASL 6. I don't know if this solved the problem or the different HW. Only L2TP access is no longer working :-(.
