Hello, we had the same Problem. After setting up the timeout at our POP Clients (MS-Outlook) from 1 min. to 5 minutes, i can reach bigger attachments. This is not an astaro problem, this is a timeout problem with the pop3-protocoll.

[/ QUOTE ]And the likely cause of it is slow response from the ISP's mail server, due to heavy loading. A lot of ISPs have been slow to upgrade their email infrastructure, while the email volume they are handling has been steadily increasing month after month. Until a lot of their customers starts complaining, they may not want to spend any money on mail server upgrades.
The only workaround for this, is to run your own mail server on your Internal network. I use NetMail, which can pick up mail from up to three different external accounts using the POP3 protocol. NetMail (formerly NIMS, the Netscape Internet Messaging System) allows client access via either IMAP, POP3 or WebMail. Because the messages can remain on my server, I prefer IMAP mail access, since that allows me to run a mail client from any PC, without forking my inbox, which is what would happen if you used POP3 mail access from several PCs to the same mail account.
I have no problem handling 10 MB mail sizes. NetMail takes care of my incoming mail, while the outgoing mail gets sent straight to the ASL SMTP proxy for outbound spooling to my ISP's outbound mail server. The nice thing about having both the inbound and outbound mail server inhouse on a 100BaseTX full duplex LAN, is that the mail send and receive functions in the mail client become very fast. I use Mozilla Thunderbird in IMAP mode as my mail client.
