File Blocking

I have attachment filter turned on and files to block defined i.e exe, bat etc etc.. The strange thing is this. If I try to send an attachment from my Yahoo email account the filters block the files like I want. But if I send a email to myself from my work E-Mail account the attachments go right through. What is it about my work e-Mail system that the firewall does not block the attachments? I don't have any whitlists defined at all.  Both E-mail systems have to come in through the internet and through the ASL Box before they hit my exchange server.

    More Info: I noticed in the header that the server that connected to the ASL asked and got a TLS connection. Could this be why the attachment got through? If so is this not a hole in the system if all a server has to do to bypass the filters is ask for a TLS session and push through any attachment it likes?

    I can also reproduce this.

    I also defined blocking exe,bat,com etc.

    Incoming mails are blocked but outgoing mail with these type of attachement go through.

    What´s going on ASTARO?

    hi guys,

    did you use the smtp-proxy for your outgoing mail?

    Outgoing mail can only be scanned and blocked, if they are send through the proxy. This means, your mail-client has to be configured to send the mails to the ASL and then the ASL-box forwards it via smarthost or direct to the recipient.
