"Verify Sender" feature won't work...

Hi everybody!

I'm just about to go deeper into that SMTP stuff and found a problem with the SMTP Proxy of my ASL machine.

When trying to use the "verify sender" feature, mails are denied by the SMTP proxy saying thsi:

80.129.XXX.XXX does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550-Verification failed for 
550-Called:   212.227.15.161
550-Sent:     MAIL FROM:<>
550-Response: 530 Authentication required
550-Sender verification failed (Sending test bounce to XXXXXX@yahoo.de
550 failed).
Giving up on 80.129.XXX.XXX.

Idea anyone?

    I found that the IP that is used to check the mail address is the smtp server of our provider (550-Called: 212.227.15.161).

    We have this server entered as smarthost in the smtp proxy settings, but I do not know why the smtp proxy checks the e-mail adress at our provider and not at yahoo.com...

    The verfication failed message relates to the fact, that the smtp server of our provider just accepts mails from existing accounts using smtp auth.

    Anyone a clue if this is a bug in the smtp proxy config?

    maybe you should give schlund a call....

    Verify sender: When you activate the Verify sender function, the "From:" addresses of incoming emails will be checked for consistency. The proxy connects to the return-path host and issues a RCPT command to see if the sender address is really deliverable. If that is not the case, the proxy will not accept mail coming from that address.

    so the question is .. what does the smtp sever @ schlund with the RCPT fro, your proxy.. if he deny your rwquest then this is your problem... so call schlund

    they can help you.. or give me your email adresse via PM and we talk in german

    what i have forgotten... maybe the sender adress is forged.. so that could be a reason for the deny... ( forged with schlund ip adress e.g.)

    The question is, what is the "return-path host"? I believe this is the smarthost in our configuration! And that this host doesn't accept mails from unknown domains and without authentification has to be obvious.

    The sender is definitively not forged, beacuse this is a testmail from yahoo I sended myself...
