Bit lost...

We have our mail server behind the ASL 5.1 remote users download their mail via POP3, but they are not able to connect to the mail server through ASL, what do I need to configure to allow this?  I have tried the POP3 proxy allowing any to any...SMTP seems to be working with the SMTP proxy do I need any packet filters?  Or NAT?  I use HTTP Proxy so currently no filters or NAT MASQ
