HELP! POP3 Proxy Extremely Slow!!

Hi,

I just started a recent thread regarding POP3 Proxy problems. However I finally started to look at the live log.Watching it, it takes forever for astaro (ver. 5.026 and 5.027) to download even small messages around 20-30Kb. Many times hanging Thunderbird 0.8 indefinately. Then I have reboot Astaro for it to even try again. However, recently this won't even work. I have to find the first email that is in que on our hosted email server via http login and delete it. Then reboot Astaro before it will work again. I'm getting 2-3 cases of this a day for the past week and a half. I'm wondering if somehow packets our intermittently being lost. We have about 20 employees with only 1-3 of them having a problem a day. And it's different users that are having the problem each day.

This is using VP (turned off spam filtering), 1Ghz PIII, 512 MB ram, 120GB hard drive. It just started happening last week before I upgraded to 5.027. I just upgraded last night and it continues this morning! [:(]

    I'm using the POP3 proxy and have no problems with HTTP emails. Wierd.

    I had the same problem yesterday with the 5.050 Beta. I found that if the Spam protection Pass score is set  equal to or higher than the quarantine score and a message is recieved with the pass score (I think), the pop3 proxy either is very slow or is unresponsive. Setting the pass score lower than the quarantine which the help says *must* always be lower, seems to fix the problem.

    As I said before, the problems I'm having are the same regardless if Spam and/or VP are enabled or not. The common denominator for our particular problems is definately emails with HTML content, and have nothing to do with Spam or VP filters.

    Sort of an update. I contacted Steve at Office Defender, and he forwarded some examples of HTML messages (that I sent him) to Astaro because he felt this was definately a problem and one other client of his had mentioned the exact same thing. I've emailed Steve a few times though and no response (left a voice message too), but I have yet to hear from him. [:(] 
    I'm hoping that means he has not heard anything from Astaro yet.

    Another issue with the POP3 proxy is that my Mac machines (3) cannot retrieve large attachments. The Macs have a timeout of one minute to download a message, and if it takes longer than that the message does not download. They say there is no way to adjust this timeout which I find odd.

    I had the same problem with the new 320 running 5.2 I contacted support and the pop proxy is eating up the processor over time. They said that a fix is in the works for the next up2date. So for now I turned it off.

    Yes, sorry I have not posted back about further developements. I received an email forwarded to me from Astaro support about a month ago which said:

     " Patrick actually reported this to us previously and I sent it to our QA
    office again for them to inspect.  I know this is a big problem and
    unfortunately there is nothing I can do but report it to them to fix. Now
    the good news is that in the next update there is a pop3 fix.  This will
    be 5.201 scheduled for the end of march and will HOPEFULLY fix this
    problem."

    So looks like it may be the same "fix"

    William, we have three G-5's, running the latest OS. I actually found a workaround using the email client Thunderbird. They have an extension that allows you to change the POP3 timeout. I changed it to something rediculous like 15 minutes. People sometimes have to wait a long time for emails, but at least it does not timeout.
