virus protection not working

I have renewed my V4.023 license (both Up2date as virus protection were expired) but although my license says the virus protection is enabled, they are not blocked.
I restarted the ASL, but they still get through (tested with the eicar test files).
I'm also using Symantec which blocks them but ASL doesn't do anything.
Where to look?

I guess you might have tried it, but try and see what happens if you reboot astaro.

first of all your generic error report doesn't allow to give any qualified answers.

Please check if mail is handled by the firewall, for SMTP it doesn't work transparently means the firewall IP has to be the MX record for your domain. In case of complaining about POP3 virus scanning ensure that your local networks are set correctly and that the destination if not any matches.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.
I'm using smtp (with mx record) for email, which is working fine. It's just that virusses do not get blocked by ASL. They too get through. Luckely I have Symantec on the internal network, which intercepts them, but that shouldn't be necessary.
Before my license ran out, it all worked fine. I now renewed the license, but virusses still get through.
