What stops the Virus alerts being sent?

Before 4.x and later we used to get an email whenever there was a virus in an email, this email was sent to postmaster@ and had subjects like:

[firewall] [WAR 030] Virus in mail ID 1BV8Fk-0004Hk-00

This seemed to stop after upgrading to 4.x and is still the same with 5.x AFAIK.

Is it a setting in the AV that caused it? We currently have viruss set to BLACKHOLE when they are detected rather than send some poor hapless sap whos email address was forged by the virus getting a virus alert.

Does BLACKHOLE stop the send of the virus alert to postmaster or has that feature been removed?

    Biffa, alerts are not being sent anymore. Regardless of your settings - no admin, sender or receiver will get an alert. There is some discussion about the reasons here: http://www.astaro.org/showflat.php?Number=38267

    However, depending your settings, the behaviour is as follows:
    • Reject: The message will be bounced back to the sender with a 5xx error message. The bounce message sent to the sender will also contain an explanation of why the message was blocked.
    • Blackhole: The e-mail will be accepted and silently dropped.
    • Quarantine: The e-mail will be accepted, but kept in quarantine. The Proxy Content Manager menu will list this e-mail with status Quarantine. This menu presents further options, including options to safely read the message.
    • Pass: The e-mail will be treated by the filter, but allowed to pass. A Header will be added to the e-mail, by which it can be sorted or filtered on the mail server or in the e-mail programs of the recipient.
