SMTP Proxy - Port 25 Open

What is everyones take on running the SMTP proxy? I prefer not to run it because without it turned on all the popular port scanners on the internet show that I am completely stealthed, but with the SMTP proxy turned on I show a port 25 open on my system. I prefer to keep my existence as anonymous or invisible as I can!

Did I set up something incorrectly?

I don't remember saying I didn't need it.

I was wondering what people thought about the security risks of this port being open, and whether they thought the benefits out weighed the risks. I am also wondering if this is normal behavior, or did I set something up incorrectly.

Any help is appreciated.

If you require a SMTP server proxy then yes you need the port open.
