Hello,

I have the POP3 proxy setup and working properly, at least as far as I can tell.  

What I would like to know is if there is a way to have the proxy NOT send the adressee an email that states that a message that was intended for them was blocked because it had a given word in it.

For example, I was getting e-mails trying to sell me Viagra.  I put viagra in the expressions filter and now I am getting a lot of messages saying I didn't get a message that had viagra in it.  

And the messages that are filtered out due to foul language.  Why filter out a message that has foul language in it when the system is going to send me a message with the the foul languare in it, but not the rest of the message?

I would really like to be able to turn off this notification.  Possible?

    unfortunatly this is not possible. here is why: the pop3 client sends the RETR request and expects either a message to be delivered or an error report. in case of a blocked page we have to provide some message (the one you see) since an error report would stop the client from continuing the download of other messages.

    why don't you just create a rule on your client so that all of the reports end up in a special folder?

    Because I have roughly 1000 clients who check their email behind my firewall and no time to go to each and every one of them and setup their filter for them.

    If I have to go to each machine and filter out the e-mail at the client workstation  then your expression filter is worthless. 

    Yes, I can easily make a filter in Outlook to do the same thing.  I say again, I can do it and have done so on MY workstation. But the majority of my users are old school teachers who are not technically proficent enough to do this on their on, and are easily offended by " offensive " e-mails.  Trying to keep up with the T & A e-mails that COBION classifies as SPAM, but not PORN is hard ennough.

    If you have to send something, why not send the same message you do now without the offensive language in it?  Put the e-mail of the person who sent the message instead.  That way if you know the sender you can e-mail them back and ask what it was they sent.  If you don't know the sender you probable didn't want the message anyway.

    IMHO, and as I have said before, the pop3 proxy's method of dealing with spam needs refined.

    As it stands I need to use blacklists on outlook as well as Astaro to filter spam. Also the whole scanning subsystem e-mails are basically a pain in the proverbial. No way i am going to read 100+ of these a day trying to work out if it is real spam or not.

    The spam features of Astaro are good but they stop short of being as good as they can be. In real life they are still hard to use and excesively tricky to configure.

    Perhaps a wish list thread should be started [;)]

    Hi,

    strange, we only have about 1 false positive every 5000 mails, with about 1400 spam per day. But its true, there should be an blackhole feature like in the smtp proxy. 

    And yes, its much easier to intercept the mails in smpt than in pop3, because you dont have to take care how the mail-server/client behaves.
