SMTP Proxy and Firewall Rule?

Hello Everybody,

a few minutes ago i tried to set up my astaro box as an relay for my internal exchange. the astaro box himself will deliver mail to another relay from my isp. so my question is: do i have to set up an extra firewall rule for my astaro box, so that it can send meil to the relay or is this obsolete, beqause it is bult in in the smtp proxy definition?

    [If I understand what you're asking] It's built in.

    Just a warning on nomenclature: when some people say "Firewall", they are alluding to just the PacketFilter Rules (network layer), and use "Proxy" to refer to the SMTP proxy (application layer); other people take "Firewall" to mean both. Neither is more "correct", but when you're talking network security you need to figure out by context what the person means.

    Astaro's proxies are not governed by the PacketFilter rules...

    No, you don't; the proxy is not governed by packetfilter rules. All the configuration of who accesses SMTP is done on the proxy if you're using it...
