Problem with SMTP Proxy v5.007

All email has stopped being received since I updated to 5.007. I can send outbound email. I get the following error in my SMTP Proxy logs:

2004:05:13-16:06:49 (none) exim[30077]: 2004-05-13 16:06:49 1BO4U5-0004X1-OS == user@mydomain.com R=static_exact T=remote_smtp defer (-53): retry time not reached for any host.

The message eventually gets returned to the sender as undeliverable. I have restarted several times. I have disabled the DNS proxy. I have since stopped using the SMTP proxy and am forwarding SMTP through ASL until I can find a fix.

    The error happened before, exim could not deliver the message to your smtp server and it will retry to send the message. Have a look in the smtp.log and search for entries which caused the error. Maybe a misconfiguration of the mail server.

    No other errors. The server is configured correctly (I have the insode mail server. Was working fine up until I applied ASL 5.007)...and now is functioning fine now that I am passing the SMTP traffic thru Astaro and not using the SMTP proxy.

    I have had the same problem with 5.007.  My previously working install seemed to stopp passing SMTP inbound traffic after upgrading to .007 this morning.

    I didn't see anything useful in the smtp.log file.  So I telnetted to the SMTP port and tried to send mail manually to an inside destination.

    Initially I got the following when I hit the data portion of sending my e-mail. 

    250 OK id=1BPoZH-0000wJ-G9
    554 SMTP synchronization error
    Connection closed by foreign host.

    Then I tried again, and the mail went through.  It also appeared to "wake up" the SMTP proxy, as mail started to arrive from the 'net at that point.

    Now, I'll admit, this is a little bit of a Voodoochicken kind of a solution to the problem.  But, it is a good idea to try to telnet in and use the SMTP command to see if you can send e-mail through the SMTP proxy at all.  If not, you have some idea where the problem is located.

    Also keep in mind, you milage may vary using this depending on what sender verifications you have turned on.

    Seems to be fixed with 5.008. Nothing changed in my config. [:S]
