update question

Hi,

We have to SG310 in Active/Passive configuration. last night we did installed 3 updates and update 9.355-1 is installed.

before this update, when we did installed any update first the Master would get update then the slave would get update and after that  again node1 become master and node2 become slave.

But now when I look in the High availeblity I can see  that the the Node 2 still says master and Node1 is slave!!

Any idea why the roles did not go back as they were?

Thanks

  • This is normal behavior, slave is updated first and after reboot it becomes master, like described in KB:
    https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/116131.aspx

That basically means after every up2date master/slave roles will be changed, assuming that cluster was not restarted in the meantime. If the both devices are same appliance model with the same revision number, don't worry about it.

There is also an option for choosing preferred master node in HA -> Configuration. The only one reasonable argument I've ever heard for using it was in a case when the one of the dead appliance was replaced with another one with newer revision number (with more hardware power). For example, in rev 2. SG210 comes with SSD disk, so a client would like to prefer this one.

  • Hi Vilic,

    Thanks for the reply,

Then it is normal behivior that Slave after the runinng the updates become master untill the next updates being installed right?

This is importent for us becuase we have our own moitoring tool that monitor port that is connected to the Node1 (old master), so when the rules change no  network grafic comes in. so I think then we should go with the option choose a preferd Master.

    Thanks

  • Instead of using a Preferred Master, make the same connection to both devices.
