What Am I doing wrong here???

Hello Experts!

I've got the UTM 9 Home latest version running as a VM on a QNAP NAS and a fairly Vanilla config. Everything runs just fine if I have both interfaces on the same network and both network connections in the same switch, and the cable modem connected to that switch, all my computers/devices can reach the internet and life is good. This is not a secure setup and not ideal.

What I want to do is have the Motorola Cable Modem connected to one NIC of the QNAP which is dedicated to the Sophos VM (I made sure it was the correct NIC/VM NIC). The other NIC connected to the switch with the other devices on it and act as the Gateway. The UTM is my DHCP and gateway. When I do it this way and use different IPs, the cable modem is 192.168.0.1 the Internet Interface of the UTM is 192.168.0.2 with 0.1 set as its gateway, the UTM shows a connection, the Internal UTM interface and network are 192.168.40.100 for the interface and 192.168.40.0-254 for the other devices. The devices on the internal can not reach the internet, cannot ping beyond the cable modem although they can ping the cable modem at 192.168.0.1. I thought this is the way it is supposed to work? I have disabled webfiltering. I'm sure its something simple and just a setting I am forgetting but I'm not able to figure out what. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance!
