UTM9 VM migration from AMD to Intel hardware. Has it been done?

I am getting ready to migrate my UTM9 VM (vmware) from AMD to Intel hardware.  I want to avoid a clean install / restore, as I want to preserve the logs/history.  Has anybody tried this?  What was the outcome?

  • Probably won't work well. UTM is not plug and play and won't detect the major hardware changes/install different drivers. Grab the logs from shell, using winscp, then reinstall/restore.
  • I wanted to take the time to update this post. I was able to successfully migrate my UTM9 VM between hardware platforms. My only downtime was between shutting the VM, migrating it and powering it back up. Less than an hour in my case. If you do this, please make a backup first.

  • Good to hear DriveRaider.

I also want to apologize. For some reason (in a hurry probably), when I originally responded to your post, I kind of glossed over VM and got hung up on Intel/AMD. When using a VM from the same vendor (VMWare, Hyper-V, Xen, whatever), it doesn't matter what the underlying physical hardware is, because the virtual hardware will remain the same. Sorry about my brain fart.
