New Home Build

Hi Everyone,

I was looking to build the following for my home installation:-

Shuttle DS81 £179
Crucial CT51264BF160B 4 GB £17
Intel Core i3 4170 £89
Kingston SSDNow 60GB mSATA SSD SATA III £32

total = £317

I was hoping to run IPS, web filtering and Centralised AV etc. Would the above be overkill?

I have Virgin Media cable 150 Down 15 Up. Is it essential to have Intel/Broadcom Nics as the shuttle has dual Realtek adapters?

Be aware you will need a Displayport to VGA adaptor as HDMI causes the install to break as it tries to detect the HDMI hardware. And sadly they're RealTek Ethernet adaptors which are not as good as their intel counterparts.

Looks pretty neat and has hyper threading which is pretty nice. I'm going to bookmark this build [:)]

Hi nmrod, and welcome to the User BB!

If you check some posts by William, you will see that the RealTeks are to be avoided. At 150Mbps, you will want the fastest i3 you can get.

Do you think maybe something like this would work? it has an intel controller.

I see shuttle have a new Slim PC out DH170 but I can't seem to see anywhere that has it for sale [:(]

Shuttle Global - DH170

It has Intel i211+i219LM Dual Lan connectivity and supports skylake processor too which would prob be perfect
