Updated to 9.315-002, will not boot

Hello,

I have an Atom N2600 based firewall for home use.  Update 9.315-002 was installed this morning.  Following the update, the firewall will not complete its boot sequence.  Attaching a monitor, it will boot just past where the USB drivers load, and then it freezes.  It looks like the SATA drivers in the OS will not talk to the hard drive.  The drive is an Intel 320 series SSD.  I tried changing the BIOS parameter for the SATA controller to IDE mode, but it did not make a difference.  Attempts to disable USB 2.0 controller or change EHCI handoff mode also did not make a difference.

Please help!  How do I recover this system from being a decorative brick?

    Are you sure the SSD didn't die?  There's a ton of read/write going on there for UTM, my personal opinion is not use an SSD and stick with SATA-type drives.  Have you tried removing the drive and attempting to access that drive with another PC to rule out a possible SSD failure?

    The SSD was working fine until the software update.  The SSD is accessible by the BIOS and boot loader to try and load the drivers.  It is only after OS drivers load that the system locks up.  Have you known an SSD to die suddenly during an update when it has been just fine in operation, and in a manner that is only uncooperative with OS drivers?

    This is a Jetway NF36 motherboard with Intel NM10 chipset and Realtek RTL8111EVL NICs.  More likely that something in the update broke it.

    This actually happened to me with two SSD drives.  It was recognized by the BIOS - but that was it.  I rebooted a system and that was the last time that my SSD drive would ever boot.

    Your issue very well could be something with an update that broke it, but I haven't heard about anything like that (yet) happening.  What about reloading from the latest UTM ISO, importing your backup and then updating again?

    Here is a follow-up after a couple weeks.  I replaced the SSD and installed 9.315-2 again.  That also stopped working.  I put the original SSD back and reinstalled 9.314-13, and it seems to be working without a problem.  I am afraid to break my firewall by upgrading again.
