Will the home utm run from USB?

I have home utm installed on my hp n40l.... and a 250gb mechanical hard drive.

Because its on 24/7, i want to keep power usage down to a minimum. i was gonna buy a a small ssd, but before i do.... can i run the software via the internal usb port on the motherboard?.
