VMware Player or VirtualBox?

Which is recommended to host UTM 9.3: VMware Player 7 or VirtualBox 5?
I plan to run the VM as Windows Service (Windows 2003 x64).

When creating the VM, which OS type should I choose: Debian, openSUSE, Fedora, Other Linux, ...?
