Robust Hardware but Poor Performance with IPS

Hey All -

So I've moved from my SG105 and to the software version of UTM using an i5 3.4GHz processor and 16GB of RAM.  My connection is 300/300M - with IPS on, speedtest.net behavior is strange.  

The speed will increase and then all of a sudden stop and start to reverse and then the website gives a socket error.  With IPS turned off, all is well.

My question is....is this just an artifact on speedtest.net meaning that the speeds are fine but the site for whatever reason is impacted by IPS or is IPS negatively impacting my speed even with the new hardware?

I've been able to replicate this behavior with just one machine connected to the UTM box and no other devices.

    Well, you know what you want your network addressing to be, right (usually 192.168.x.0/24 for home networks).  During the UTM setup, you'll be able to set that, so decide what it will be now.  

    Example:  You decide that you want to use 192.168.117.0/24 for your network and will set the UTM internal interface to 192.168.117.1, so that will be your client gateway.  Then just give Hyper-V a static address of 192.168.117.10.

    Don't make things more difficult than they need to be, life is too short.  [:)]

    With no functional gateway, I'm not currently able to configure a virtual machine to get near setting up UTM.  The free version of Hyper-V is all CLI and apparently I must use Windows 8's Hyper-V Manager to remotely configure a VM running on the server.  Of course, that won't work at the moment since UTM isn't present to route packets (no gateway). 

    It sounds like this would probably be a non-issue if I had a GUI to work with for the free version of Hyper-V.
