Installed OK but boot process hangs

Hi -

Looking for newbie-level help from anyone with the know-how and some patience.

Installed Sophos UTM 9.308 on a spare Dell Dimension 3000 (Pentium 4) with  1.25GB RAM, 40GB HDD (I know 60GB is recommended but 40GB is the largest spare IDE drive I have available) and 2 Netgear PCI NICs.

UTM installed fine and allowed me to select the NIC for the PC/network connection.

Seems to boot fine until this step:

[   54.046208] NET: Registered protocol family 17

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

  • Hi fcioce and welcome to the Sophos UTM User BB!

It seems your PC is a bit old and underpowered for running current UTM version.
Realtek NICs are not working good with UTM, it should be Broadcom or Intel...

Minimum recommended RAM is 2GB, better go with 4GB or more.
