General question about licensing

Dear all,

I'm completely new on this Sophos UTM stuff and have a question about licensing in general.

Is it really necessary to buy a licence for each network device that is detected by the UTM?

I'm getting this Email from the UTM daily:

This email was sent by your Sophos UTM software to notify you that you have exceeded 110% of the user count for your license!

Licensed Users/IPs: 100
Counted  Users/IPs: 209

All additional users/ips except the ones listed below will be blocked.
A 10% tolerance has already been deducted.

Do I really have to buy 209 licenses?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards
Markus

  • Hi, Markus, and  welcome to the User BB!

With the new licensing model, you can upgrade from 100 to 250 IPs in exchange for reducing the remaining subscription time by half.  Before doing that, ask your reseller for a demo 250-IP license and try Scott's suggestions for reducing your IP count.  You also should ask your reseller if it might make sense to replace your software subscription with one of the new SG appliances as the hardware license is limited only by the power of the device, not IPs.

    Cheers - Bob

  • Thank you Bob, I will check this out with our reseller.
