General question about licensing

Dear all,

I'm completely new on this Sophos UTM stuff and have a question about licensing in general.

Is it really necessary to buy a licence for each network device that is detected by the UTM?

I'm getting this Email from the UTM daily:

This email was sent by your Sophos UTM software to notify you that you have exceeded 110% of the user count for your license!

Licensed Users/IPs: 100
Counted  Users/IPs: 209

All additional users/ips except the ones listed below will be blocked.
A 10% tolerance has already been deducted.

Do I really have to buy 209 licenses?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards
Markus

  • The user count for the license must be equal to the number of IPs that will be passing traffic through the UTM (IPv4 and IPv6 are counted separately).  If you have 209 workstations/laptops/servers, then you will need a license with an IP count that reflects that.

If you have devices that do not need internet access, remove the default gateway on those devices and they will not pass traffic through the UTM anymore.

FYI, IPs in the license count list will drop off after one week of not being used anymore.
