Up2Date Upgrade from 8.3 to 9.x Partial Fail. Transgender state UTM LOL

So today i upgraded my ASG220 to 8.310 and then downloaded the UTM9 install via the tab on the Up2Date Section. It progressed and rebooted. I received an email stating the following:
Firmware Up2Date installation failed: Errors during the package installation, installation failed (10)
Please check the up2date log file for detailed information.

....sooo...i log into the device and notice the unit tells me there are 6 updates available on the dashboard for my firmware version 8.310 but clicking that brings me to the up2date area which says i am up to date, and it also no longer has an upgrade to version 9 tab.

and now...as i typed this...i go back to get another screenie of the dashboard saying 6 updates available and i am told i am on 9.x...going to the up2date area i see 9.006-5.

The up2date log file shows this failed entry followed by apparent successes?

    That's ugly! [:O]  Hopefully, you re-imaged from ISO and applied your config backup.

    sure did..as soon as you told me if it mattered which USB port to use to get the ASG to boot from...and if i had to do anything special during bootup with a keyboard and monitor or if the unit would just know to boot and install.. [:)]

    EDIT 1:
    reading for the first time about the astaro/sophos smart installer usb dongles, can i make one from my own usb stick? or do i just use a third party iso2usb type program to burn the ssi-9.312-8.1.iso file i have to any usb stick?

    found a thread, https://www.astaro.org/gateway-products/hardware-installation-up2date-licensing/35884-usb-stick-install-solved.html trying it now with utm9
    EDIT 3:
    Told me install.tar was missing. see edit 4 below as to the installer kept running while i was inputting commands from above link

    EDIT 4:
    I had to toggle the SUPPORT button on the first screen to get the countdown timer to stop counting so the installation didnt start in the midst of me running the commands in that post, like it did the first 2 times i tried to run those commands. I ALSO had the installation fail AGAIN this time due to some missing RPM files which when viewed in windows explorer look to have been corrupt from the source ISO file. Verified with daemon tools that ssi-9.312-8.1.iso contains 7 files without proper RPM extensions. (see attached)


    EDIT 5:
    after renaming all files to .rpm or .rb1.i686.rpm (per install fail log) the install finished and i uploaded my backed up config and all seems well. 15 minutes before im supposed to swap it into production, w00t! lol
