Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my current set up and also combine/add a UTM VM to it.
Due to limitations (modem location, lack of cat5 etc), the main system hardware needs to be in the living room. This means I want it to be as quiet as possible; preferably inaudible from a few metres.
I am looking at building mainly from these parts:
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230v3
MOBO: Supermicro X10SLL-F
CASE: Silverstone DG09
The host will run a basic Debian install, KVM as the hypervisor software with ~4x VMs running. I would like to turn on as many features of Sophos UTM as possible.
I will add an SSD and an 8GB RAM stick (or 2x8GB if possible).
NICs on the mobo are: Intel i217LM and i210AT.
Does this build look OK?
I think all the parts are compatible and fit the case.
I'd be interested if anyone has any recommendations or alternatives before I buy the parts.
Also, any recommendations for the PSU; I having been looking at a Seasonic passive cooler.
Finally, am I being too optimistic in expecting a near silent build?
I've read conflicting views; I have an Antec ASK300 running at the moment that is too noisy for me as a long term solution.
Thanks in advance.
