I3 or modern atom?

Hi,
I have used astaro home utm for a few nears now and want to change the hardware it's on.

I don't need vpn, but do want proxy/content filtering , av, firewall and ids. Our home cable speed is up to 50mbps.

There a 6 devices on the network which could require connectivity at once.  Would 2gb of ram with a new atom be enough or do I need an i3?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi, Emotive, and welcome to the User BB!

As a security guy, I'd rather have the capability of using IPsec inside IPv6.  Since I don't enjoy playing with hardware, I'd prefer to upgrade now. [;)]

You are right! IPsec built into IPv6 will be nice once the rest of the internet jumps on board.

I usually try and recommend people get a motherboard that supports the newest generation CPUs and start small with a celeron when they have low users and bandwidth. This way they can grab an i3 or i5 on the cheap down the road if they decide to upgrade their connection.
