Zotac Mag Mini-PC?

As a relative "newbie" to networking I am looking to set up a Sophos UTM on my home network, but the only "spare/unused" PC I have available is a Zotac Mag Mini-PC. This has an Intel Atom 330 1.6GHz CPU, a NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Adapter and an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. Is this suitable for the purpose?

Hi, the UTM needs at least 2 Ethernet NICs; it doesn't look like your PC has any expansion slots, right?

If you have a VLAN switch, you could probably get by with 1 NIC, but the Atom 330 will be a bottleneck if your internet connection is over 25mbps.

I rather suspected that. You're right - the PC has no expansion slots. My broadband speed wouldn't give the CPU any problems though - out here in the sticks I can get 1.75mbps on a good day!
I'm interested in your mention of a VLAN switch, although I know nothing about the subject! I'll have to do a bit more reading around that!

I wrote a post about configuring VLANs on a Netgear 'smart' switch (8-port ~$100USD) at

My understanding is that UTM 9.3 allows VLANs to be added to an interface that is already in use (that was not the case before).
You'll have to configure the switch separately from the UTM first.
