Well Performing, Power Conserving Home UTM

What current motherboard and CPU is recommended for a power efficient when idling, but well performing when being used at home, UTM with most protections enabled?  I was looking at i3's with an H97 motherboard and sufficient RAM.  Would that be a good current choice?

Also, is there a way or method to auto power up and down the UTM based on a time and day schedule?  I'm not talking about access, but rather doing it for power savings at home where we might use it 8 hours on weekdays, and 16 hours a day on the weekend.

    modern cpus do not use that much power anymore.  Powering down and back up is really unnecessary as you do not save much in power with modern systems.  Spec it correctly for your network and you probably won't notice the difference in your power bill..[:)]
