Motherboards with Quad NIC's (Example: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLM+LN4F-O):

How are the extra NIC's used by Sophos UTM? Does Sophos UTM have a built-in Switch function?

I am still working on selecting hardware for my Sophos UTM installation.

Morning,

Multi-NIC boards will always have each port seen as a separate interface. If you need a switch like setup, you can bridge several ports together into one logical interface. It behaves like a switch but with a few quirks.

You're much better off buying an 8-port gigE switch for $50-70 than to spend $300-400 on a motherboard to only gain 2 "switch" ports, with significant performance impact.

If you want to create a DMZ and guest network, that's another matter, but note that you could also use VLANs.

It's definitely a good price for a board with dual Intel NICs.

Also nice that it has a dedicated video controller.
