How do I go about setting up my home network coming from a coaxial conection?

Hey guys just started using Sophos UTM and definitely want it to handle my home network. I am running firmware 9.307-6, home license, my own hardware, and my ISP is Time Warner

I’ve searched for coaxial to ethernet products that are in the $100+ price range or are no longer available for sale by manufacture. I’ve read about ISP provisioning ethernet but I think T.W. only provides that for businesses, not sure. I’m just wondering how is everyone else going about this type of situation, or should I just keep my current setup as it is just home use.
 
I'm really interested in this product (Ethernet over Coax for IP Camera Transmission and IPTV Home Networking) but thought I should get some opinions before anything.

    Hi and welcome,
    BarryG is probably the most experienced person to provide an answer, but in  the meantime, can you access the TW modem and put it in bridge mode?

    Hi jd3iii,

    I'm customer of Kabel Deutschland - a DocSIS/cable internet Provider in Germany.
    I think using an DocSIS to PCIe NIC or something like that is not possible - the provider has to provision the clients MAC of the Cable Modem/DocSIS NIC and they only allow a specific range of devices on their network.

    I recommend staying tuned with Cable Modem and using a single NIC for uplink (sophos to cable modem)

    Contact Time Warner about getting an ethernet drop.  Worst that'll happen is they will say no.

    Hi,

    You have to use a cable modem, but as Ian says, it should be bridged.

    If the modem you were given is not suitable, you can buy a DOCSIS 3.1 modem almost anywhere, and give TW the MAC address, and return their modem.

    afaik, all of the modems are bridgeable, including the TW ones.

    Thank you all, for your input [:)]! I will definitely put in bridge mode and as a side note I didn't fall for the renting part [:D]...
