I'm attempting to install UTM9 onto a Mac Mini (as a home firewall) but I'm failing at the first hurdle…
The spec is Macmini3,1 (late 2009) 2.53Ghz Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 1 ethernet + USB ethernet.
I also have a iMac10,1 (late 2009) 3.06Ghz Core2 Duo used to test the boot media works.
I downloaded asg-9.306-6.1.iso, burned to CD & it was unbootable on the Mini - this does boot on the iMac.
I converted via isohybrid on Ubuntu & dd'd to a USB stick & it was also unbootable on the Mini - this does boot on the iMac.
The download appears to be 'MBR based' (BIOS, not EFI). It always shows as 'legacy os' when attempting to pick in refind or the boot picker.
I see other users run UTM9 on a Mac Mini, but I can't seem to get the installer to boot at all.
I'd like the Mini to be dedicated to the firewall e.g not running in a VM.
Any ideas?
Are there other ways I can get it installed?
The ISO looks like it has RPM packages, can I boot from a similar Linux distro & install them to another partition?
I do have Ubuntu & Debian booting on this Mini - they both have EFI support & I have refind & Grub2 setup to handle those.
I'm not even sure I have the right ISO - I downloaded the software ISO & the hardware version, neither boot the Mini.
