SG 105 & 115 Basic Guard limitations

Hi,

I've failed to figure out if the SG 105 and 115 have limitations with Basic Guard licensing the same way the UTM 100/110/120 did.

A Sophos rep wasn't able to clear that up either. I think they are seeking clarification.

I'd love to see an appliances overview for the SG 1xx series like they have for the UTM.

Also a Basic Guard guide for the SG 1xx like they have for the UTM 1xx.

Is it still a 1 AP and 2 SSID limitation?

Thanks

  • probably with the costs of just a network protection and web protection renewal being less than basicguard why would you neuter your security with basicguard and pay more for the privilege?

Yes.  Basic Guard limitations are license based, not hardware based.

For 6 users the cost justification is not there for Full Guard.
They are a branch office and don't host email, remote access or anything like that.
Basic Guard will give ample protection but the only real query was SSID quantity.

We are coming from a RED 50 in this location where they only had corporate WAN. Now they need their own ADSL which RED can't accommodate (two data paths).

We'll suck it and see and maybe add a wireless subscription if we really need more than two SSID.
  • Damien, I just configured a new 105w for a new client. The built-in wireless seemed stronger than an AP30 - possibly because of all the antennas.

I would think that, with a 105, you wouldn't want more than two SSIDs in any case because each "Separate Zone" SSID builds a RED tunnel, and those eat a lot of CPU cycles.

In North America, a 105 with three years of Full Guard is only $4 more than a one-year Basic Guard with two one-year renewals.  You need a conversation with a good reseller.

    Cheers - Bob
