Is ECC needed in a small home environment?

I have Sophos running in a small home environment currently and am wondering if I'd see much with ECC ram. I plan to downsize from a 4U chassis I had to either a 3U 15.25" chassis or 1U supermicro barebones. One would cost a lot more than the other.

ECC would allow you to be protected from rare memory data corruption issues, but it is slower and much more expensive, being designed for server class machines. It would be unnecessary for your purpose.
