SWAP Usage Creeping up constantly / automatic reboot?

Johannes, I don't think I'd worry about that.  If you have the drive thin-provisioned I'd be interested in how it would handle an increase of the swap partition.  If you want to see where it is now, run

cc get settings extra_swap

if the result is 0 (zero), you can increase it from one to 3GB with

cc set settings extra_swap 2

Hello, My UTM 9.210-20 running on VmWARE ESXi with 50% of 4GB RAM usage constantly shows increasing swap-usage stats starting at 0% and creeping to over 5% or more over a weeks period. See enclosed attachment.
Since I cannot find much on how to correct the issue in the forum, is there a way to force the UTM to reboot automatically once a week or so?
Any suggestions?

5% is not big deal.  if you start seeing 40 percent or more a reboot isn't the fix(not a windows OS here) the solution is to allocate more ram.

I am seeing the memory leak when I have Avira selected as my anti-virus scanner in Web Filtering.  When I change to Sophos AV scanner, my mem usage drops considerably, and the swap in the logs drop like a rock.

Check that and see.

i actually run BOTH.  running one a/v can have memory issues at times.  I run both for the extra security..unless you have weak or overloaded hardware you won't notice the dual engines except if scanning a file that takes a bit to download.

Bob, to answer your question about VMWare. The UTM9.2 installation is ThickProvisioned. I did not dare to go thin on an important Linux install such as a firewall/router. Too much can go wrong. Example, initially I had the E1000 virtual NIC installed, which caused the UTM to partially not execute some Policies. It was a pain to troubleshoot that.

PS I will try the CLI commands you suggested earlier.

I am running currently total 4GB with 2GB in use. As I see it, SwapUsage will increase at about 6% per week in my installation until the device either crashes or churns the harddrive to death. At some point I'll have to reboot. Why not automate a reboot as it will become inevitable.

your reckoning is incorrect.  If it creeps up then you have either too high of a load or a misconfiguration.  In windows rebooting is a fix..in Linux it is not. I have a 4 gig machine that swaps 4 percent.  I only have 5 users but i keep a CRAPTON of reporting data which is where my ram eating comes from.  let it run and see if the swap usage stabilizes.  

You also have not told us how many users..which features you are using and your wan bandwidth.  Also how many networks are being protected by the utm and what bandwidth are those additional networks?  Moving packets also requires ram.
