I’m installing a Sophos UTM for a really simple SOHO network and must be doing something stupid!
Connected Windows PCs don't seem to get DHCP or DNS. I can see a google page but can't find the server at google.com when entering a search term. if I use a static ip and 8.8.8.8 DNS Clients on dynamic DHCP
I've spent five days now combing threads, over a dozen reinstalls, different NICs, cables etc so really grateful for any ideas!
For testing, I’ve set a temporary firewall rule to allow any to any access with any protocol. I’ve disabled all Sophos AV, Application Control etc features for now. I've disabled client Kaspersky AV and its NDIS filter.
UTM version is 9.210-20 home licence. Hardware i3, 8GB and 4-port Intel server NIC. I’m not using the Realtek mobo NIC. webadmin is fine and Up2Date is working too. The dashboard states WAN and LAN NICs are up and connected. Sophos DHCP is off, DNS forwarding is on, and 'use forwarders assigned by ISP' is checked, but showing no assigned forwarders (?)
The router is a BT Homehub3 (192.168.1.254 gateway 192.168.1.100) serving DHCP (ip range 192.168.1.64 to 192.168.1.253/24) and DNS to direct connected clients, and to Sophos.
Clients connected straight to the HH3 get internet and DNS and ip allocated. All clients are set to get ip and DNS automatically. On the Sophos clients, I’ve also tried setting a static ip and google DNS servers in Windows Network connections but still get search failures. They show a 169.254.x.x ip and no DNS.
Help! (and Happy Christmas [:)])
Thanks, Judy
