Noob Question

I have installed a home version of UTM and am trying to place it between my cable modem and my router.  The cable from the cable modem is going into one NIC on my hardware device and the other NIC is going into one of the 4 ports on my router.  I have my internal network setup as 192.168.*.* and an external setup as my outside IP and the gateway of the cable modem.  I have DHCP setup on my UTM using the router as it's gateway.  I am able to pull a lease but I have no connectivity through my modem out to the internet.  I have NAT and Firewall rules setup to allow the connections but am getting no where.  The default Web Filter is on, also.  My question is, "What am I missing?" When I hook up the modem to my UTM hardware, there is nothing plugged into the NetGear Router.  I am sure that I have forgotten to mention something, and any help would be appreciated.

    It is common for cable modems to lock to mac addresses of the device.  So make sure you restart your cable modem.

    Thanks for the advice.  After restarting my modem, the IP info changed.  After inputting the new info and making sure to apply settings, I restarted the UTM and my machine.  I ran a -t ping to 8.8.8.8 and after about 8mins, it finally started allowing traffic through.  I have been up and running since Monday night.

    Make sure your UTM external interface is attached directly to the cable modem port and not your old "router" you mentioned in your post. Double NAT issues can be fun to troubleshoot. [;)]

    Cable companies do limit the number of IP addresses (CPE end points) when your modem boots and your modem does remember MAC addresses of devices that have attached so be sure to power cycle your modem (and remove the battery if it has one) to get a cold boot. The UTM default masquerading setup should allow outbound traffic from inside your UTM protected network. Good luck!
